BA Review meeting Friday 6 July 12pm Laws 108
Dear Colleagues
Representatives of the AUS Branch Committee met with the Arts Future Governance Group to discuss the BA Review process. We emphasised that the quality and quantity of submissions and the turn out at AUS meetings on this topic indicated that our members were engaged in this review and were making tremendous contributions to a plan for the College's future. The Governance Group was sincerely impressed by the submissions.
We further indicated that the worst case scenario for the College would be to lose the enthusiasm of the staff for contributing to this process, which could happen if the process was rushed to a premature conclusion. What has come from the submissions is greater than the sum of the ideas in the submissions, but the CoA will only benefit from this if the staff can use the submissions of their colleagues to refine and enhance their creative input to the process.
Our message was that we believe that the majority of our CoA members feel the benefit of one more round of synthesis on a University-wide level outweighs the risks to an amended timeline.
The Branch Committee would now like to call a meeting of members on Friday, 6 July at 12pm in Laws 108, to discuss this and any other issues in advance of the July Faculty meeting in which you will be asked to vote on aspects of the BA Review plan.
Jack Heinemann
AUS Branch President
