Members who oppose the proposed cuts in the College of Arts are invited to an action group meeting.

An action plan in response to the announcement of further cuts in the college, following last year's voluntary redundancies, will be worked on at the meeting.
At a members' meeting led today by AUS industrial officer Marty Braithwaite, the following points were among those raised concerning this year's national bargaining:

Members will shortly receive their postal ballot forms. It is a requirement of the Employment Relations Act that members be balloted on their support for MECA bargaining, where a MECA is not in existence. (The universities have the Umbrella Agreement, not a MECA).
A high member participation in the ballot will indicated a high level of support for the bargaining process; members are encouraged to participate!
Meetings of union members are being held throughout the country to discuss the ballot and other matters related to bargaining.

Our collective agreements expire in March, which means that members must re-confirm their intentions to bargain for multi-employer collective agreements (MECA). We must ballot all members of all unions covered by the relevant collective agreements.
