February Update

National Bargaining Meetings in February
AUS is holding meetings at all the universities for members to re-confirm their intentions to bargain for multi-employer collective agreements (MECA). We must ballot all members of all unions covered by the relevant collective agreements.

At the meeting we will discuss the ballot and other matters related to bargaining.
The General Secretary of AUS Helen Kelly will lead the meetings at Canterbury on 20 February (12pm and 1pm in A1).

Partnership Resource Centre Project
The University management have approached the Branch to engage in a project with the assistance of the Partnership Resources Centre. The Branch Committee at its planning day on 1 February agreed to find a project that both parties could work on. The Centre (which is a part of the Department of Labour) assists employers and unions to develop constructive approaches for working together.

Recruitment
Our recruitment drive last year has had a positive result. The Branch Committee will repeat the exercise in the run-up to the bargaining period. We need to up-date our database of potential members and include all staff who have joined the University since 1 November 2006. You can help with the recruitment drive by sending the names of anyone who has joined your department during this period to: Canterbury.Admin@aus.ac.nz or by internal mail to AUS Office or phone Matthew on extn 6485 or Carol etxn 4150..

New Branch Committee
